The other day, I received a sample of a coffee face scrub. Graham remarked that he thought it’d be quite abrasive, but I decided to give it a try. He was right, it is very exfoliating – so the scrub must be used gently. When I rinsed the scrub off, I marvelled at how silky smooth my skin was. I used this sample scrub very gently on my face, but when we made little gift pots of this today, we all tried it on our hands and were amazed at the silkiness of our exfoliated skin after rinsing. Therefore, this exfoliating scrub can really be used anywhere; face and neck, hands, arms, legs, feet, back, heels, elbows… And with how simple it is to make, it’s easy to mix up a fresh little batch once a week or so for exfoliation.
We made a rather large batch to pop into mini glass jars as Christmas gifts, so I’ve tried here to scale down the recipe to a more realistic one person – single use quantity. If the exact recipe measurements are a little inaccurate, this listing will at least give you an idea of the balance of ingredients in the mix. From there it’s easy to adjust the blend. Basically if you feel your blend is too wet, add a little more ground coffee and if you feel the mix is too dry, add a little more XCT oil. That’s really how we went about making our blend anyway, there’s no ‘exact recipe’ it’s just a ‘bit of this and some of that’ type concoction!
:: Bulletproof Coffee Face Scrub ::
Recipe by Elke at Another Day
In making our own coffee face scrub, we decided to ‘upgrade’ the blend and go Bulletproof with our ingredients. If you don’t have Bulletproof ingredients, you could use regular coffee, that you’ve preferably ground yourself and replace the XCT oil with olive oil. I do highly recommend ‘upgrading’ your face scrub though, and most definitely your coffee to Bulletproof!
Ingredients;
- 2T freshly ground Bulletproof coffee beans
- 5 drops of vitamin E oil
- 1t of melted Bulletproof cacao butter (melt slowly over a very low heat)
- 1t of raw organic honey
- 1T of Bulletproof XCT oil (I find this wonderfully nourishing for my skin, especially to remove stubborn eye make up!)
Method;
- Into a deep sided bowl, add the ground coffee.
- Add the Vitamin E oil and stir through.
- Add cooled, but still liquid, cacao butter and stir through.
- Stir through raw honey – if the honey is quite thick, you may like to gently warm this for ease of mixing.
- The mix will be starting to come together. Hopefully at this stage it is still quite crumbly. If the blend already resembles the wet grounds, similar to that after you have brewed and pressed your morning coffee – then add another 1T of fresh ground coffee before adding the XCT oil into the blend.
- To the crumbly consistency mixture, slowly – little by little, add the XCT oil. You want to incorporate about 1T but at least 1/2T so adjust your dry ground coffee quantity in the mixture accordingly.
- As I said, this really isn’t an exact science. You’re really just adjusting as you go to end up having added all the wet ingredients to an amount of dry ground coffee that will result in a wet, but not runny in any way, final product.
To use this exfoliator, take a small amount and gently massage onto wet skin. Rinse off and be amazed at the silky softness of your skin. As a guide, I used 1/2t of the mix to exfoliate my face and neck.
